24 Hour Fitness membership services suck!

I called 24 Hour Fitness (Parkmoor, San Jose) to inquire about a new membership. The phone conversation went something like this...

Me: Hi, do you guys have membership discounts for IBM employees?

Him: Yes we do. You need to come in and give us your badge number before I can give you a quote based on the agreement we have

Me: OK, I'll give you my badge number now.

Him: You mean like over the phone?

Me: Yeah... (yes, genius, "now" means "here and now, over the phone"... geez)

Him: No I can't do this over the phone. You need to come in.

Me: Why can't you do it over the phone? My badge number is going to be the same whether I tell you over the phone or in person you know.

Him: Cos once I give you a quote, you'll have no incentive to come in.

Me: Alright, forget it then.

Him: *click*

First, this totally stinks of pressure sales. Think car dealerships. Second, he hung up on me. That's just flat out rude. Guess what? I'm not joining 24 Hour Fitness...

Good Idea!! I joined 24 hour fitness in Santa Monica 1 1/2 years ago with an upfront fee of $850.00 and a monthly fee of $4.00 and have used the gym since. In Feb. of this year I was told that my membership had been cancelled the day after I purchased it. I have been trying to resolve it since with no progress so far....They have my $$ and I have nothing!!!!!!!!!

The price is a "BIG SECRET". I tried to get a price quote over the phone for a family membership and was told a meeting with a club rep was the only way to get it. I took the bait and went to a local 24 hour gym. The manage had to come out of the back room for the "BIG MEETING" and she rambled off about a dozen different prices for a dozen different plans. I couldn't keep them straight so I asked for a price sheet or brochure. Guess what? There is none! They make this stuff up as they go along. What a joke! I walked.
